Seeking refuge is a need that all of us have had at every stage of our lives, to differing degrees. I was drawn to explore this universal longing to be safe from pursuit, danger or trouble. That feeling can take your breath away and change your focus;. It causes us to return to the most basic requirements for comfort, like Maslow's hierarchy of needs; physiological is primary. Safety is next in importance, and then when that is considered stable, love/belonging, esteem, and self-actualization. Each one of us is at a different place. Many in today's world are struggling to find refuge from illness and violence before they can work on their intellectual and emotional needs. We can help each other.
